Cawley Dress

I had the privilege of attending a residential Merchant & Mills sewing retreat at the end of May. It was a great learning experience where six participants received sewing instruction and support from two tutors for four days. We also stayed around the corner at The Grove, the Merchant & Mills residence. I decided to make the Cawley dress, a pattern collaboration with Hannah Cawley. Knowing that time would be tight, I decided to omit the two chest welt pockets. I selected a five ounce Japanese red chambray and it sewed up perfectly. I learned some great tips about tacking fabric down to sew the collar and cuffs, as well as tracing the pattern before cutting. Our small group was great and I would definitely go back to do more sewing or attend a specialized craft workshop. I also purchased MM fabric to make a jute runner tote bagscarves, and kerchiefs. Lots of photos below!
